Affordable telephoto lens for 35mm or crop
Post by: aloofyouth - Date: 2008-12-17T22:02:30.000-08:00 Author's Rating: 5.00 rating
Pros: High quality, cheap price
Cons: Not great in low light, difficult to hold for long periods
The Bottom Line: Unless you shoot a lot of moving subjects in low light, this may be the only telephoto lens you ever need. Long enough focal length even for casual birdwatchers!

Post by: rbr28 - Date: 2007-11-12T13:36:57.000-08:00 Author's Rating: 5.00 rating
Pros: VR, image quality, cost compared to faster lenses or bigger zooms.
Cons: f/5.6 at 300mm is limiting.
The Bottom Line: One of the best options for a first lens, if you need the reach.

Not worth the money at all
Post by: sailingshot - Date: 2006-12-04T04:30:18.000-08:00 Author's Rating: 2.00 rating
Pros: Better built than other 70-300 models at the moment.
Cons: Silly price for what you get. NO macro mode.
The Bottom Line: If you must have 300mm, buy the Sigma version. If 200mm will do, the Nikon 28-200G is a gem for 300.00.

Bang for the buck!
Post by: uniq - Date: 2005-10-27T12:53:13.000-08:00 Author's Rating: 5.00 rating
Pros: extreme optical quality, excellent construction, includes case and integrated lens hood
Cons: excellent price point vs its bigger brother the F/2.8...but still expensive. Lens collar
The Bottom Line: It may be an F/4 but you save $4000! and get awesome performance. It works fantastically well with Nikon teleconverters.

Didn't expect a lot, but got even less
Post by: pringlw - Date: 2005-01-16T09:31:55.000-08:00 Author's Rating: 2.00 rating
Pros: Light, inexpensive, relatively small
Cons: Very poor AF (constantly hunts), lots of chromatic aberration
The Bottom Line: This lens let me down. The images are not what you would expect from a ED glass and the autofocus system is poor.
